After the shuffle and cut, everyone gets five cards. Looking only at those, each player — starting after the dealer — gets one turn: call how many of the 13 tricks their side will take, 7 (Small), 8, 9 or 10 (Bonus), or pass. Each call must beat the last; the highest call wins. If everyone passes, the dealer must call 7.

The player after the caller leads the first trick. Follow the led suit if you can; if you can't, play any card — you are never forced to trump. The highest card of the led suit wins, unless a revealed trump was played. The winner takes the four cards and leads the next trick.

Until it is shown, the trump has no power: a trump-suit card played before the reveal is just an off-suit card. A player who can't follow suit may ask to see it — the caller's partner too — and must then play a trump if they have one. The caller may reveal it only when they can't follow suit. Still hidden after 12 tricks? It is shown before the last one.

The calling team needs its call in tricks together: made = +call, missed = −call. The Bonus (10) pays 13 when made and costs 10 when missed. The other team needs 5 tricks: +5 or −5. Extra tricks don't count. The first side to reach 30 (or 50) after a round wins; scores can go below zero.
